When Bridget and Ben contacted us to see if we were available to photograph their wedding at Dissington Hall in Northumberland, we realised they were getting married on the date of our first wedding anniversary. But, as we truly love photographing weddings, working together on our own wedding anniversary to capture another couple’s wedding felt like a perfect way for us to celebrate.
I started the day with Bridget and her bridesmaids at Bridget’s home in Gosforth.
After Bridget’s hair and makeup had been done beautifully, Bridget’s bridesmaids helped her into her stunning dress.
Meanwhile Mark was with Ben and his groomsmen, who were enjoying a relaxed lunch at Popolos in central Newcastle (which, incidentally, is where Mark and I had our first date).
Bridget and Ben had chosen to hold their wedding ceremony at the Newcastle Unitarian Church which is also in central Newcastle and so just a short walk away for the boys.
The church is beautiful and airy inside and the wedding ceremony was very personal and lovely.
The newlyweds were showed with confetti by their guests as they left the church.
Then it was off in their beautiful wedding car to Dissington Hall in Northumberland.
The weather was unseasonably warm and so Bridget, Ben and their guests were able to make the most of the lovely Dissington Hall grounds and have drinks on the lawn.
As I gathered key guests for the group shots Bridget and Ben wanted, Mark took a few photographs of Bridget and Ben.
It was great to be able to capture group shots outside on the lawn.
Bridget and Ben had chosen to not have a receiving line and so, as the guests were moving into the marquee and getting seated, we captured some images of the two of them outside Dissington Hall.
We also took some photographs of them inside on the beautiful Dissington Hall staircase.
Earlier we had captured some pictures of the marquee once it was set up for the wedding breakfast. The marquee, and the cake made of cheese, looked great.
The speeches were given before the meal and they were excellent.
Bridget and Ben had kindly insisted we join them and their guests for the wedding breakfast. So we were able to toast them and our own first year of marriage together. After a very lovely meal, we all headed back into Dissington Hall for their first dance.
It was a pleasure to photograph Bridget and Ben’s wedding and lovely to think that we’ll be celebrating our wedding anniversaries at the same time from now on. The day after Bridget and Ben’s wedding we received a lovely text from Bridget saying “Just been with our parents and everyone was saying how great you both were!” And after we had sent the images to them, we were delighted to receive a further message saying “We’ve just looked at our photos, love them thank you!!!”
