We love the Grand Hotel at Tynemouth and we have photographed a number of great weddings there, including Cerys and Ross’s Grand Hotel Tynemouth wedding. Claire and David’s Easter 2013 wedding at the Grand Hotel was extra special for us however, as Claire and David are great friends of ours.
Claire and David were holding both their wedding ceremony and their wedding reception at the hotel. Claire and her family stopped at the hotel the night before and, on the morning of the big day itself, I headed to Tynemouth to join Claire, her mum and her bridesmaids at the hotel.
When I arrived, Claire’s bridesmaids were having their makeup done by the very talented Tracey Taylor of Beautiful Bride Makeovers. I’ve worked alongside Tracey at a number of weddings before, including Emmie’s Rockliffe Hall wedding and Bridget’s Dissington Hall wedding and she always makes her brides look stunning, as well as being a lovely calm presence during the preparations!
Claire was very nervous while she was getting ready but as her mum helped her into her beautiful dress she started to shed the nerves.
While I was with the girls, Mark had spent the morning with David and the boys. They all looked great in their grey suits and blue cravats.
I love this quiet moment between Claire and her dad.
Then it was time for them to head down the Grand Hotel’s amazing staircase towards the ceremony room. No hint of the earlier nerves was evident as Claire and her dad shared a joke together.
As Claire started to walk up the aisle, everyone turned to get their first look at her apart from one of the groomsmen who was instead smiling at the look on David’s face as he saw Claire.
It was so lovely to see (and capture) the look of pure pride on Claire’s dad’s face.
I love too the intimacy of this look shared by Claire and David as they sat down together.
The ceremony was fantastic. The registrar had everyone laughing and the love between Claire and David was clearly visible as they shared their vows, exchanged rings and had their first kiss.
The walk back down the aisle as Mr and Mrs was brilliant, with some great expressions from Claire as she saw and greeted family and friends.
After a photograph of all the wedding guests at the foot of the sweeping hotel staircase, we headed up the staircase with Claire and David to capture a few shots of just the two of them.
Claire is great fun and she had told me prior to the wedding that she was determined to make the most of the location of their venue and head down onto Longsands Beach on their wedding day come rain or shine (though happily it was the latter on the day). Claire had planned ahead and got matching wellies for her and her bridesmaids and I had brought mine so I could follow them with my camera wherever they wished to go.
Because it was such a lovely day, lots of their guests joined them on their trip onto the beach.
Claire decided it would be a shame not to make the most of having wellies and so went paddling in the sea with her bridemaids.
Then it was back inside the hotel and time for the wedding breakfast receiving line.
The speeches were brilliant and had all of us laughing, and shedding a few tears too.
Claire and David’s cake had been made by a ridiculously talented friend of ours, Erica, who should definitely enter the Great British Bake Off. Claire didn’t want to ruin the cake by cutting it, but I’m glad she did as it tasted as good as it looked.
Then it was time for their first dance.
I just love this next picture of them.
The band – The Versions – were great. They are based in the North West but travelled to play at the wedding as David and his family know them well (and knew how good they’d be too).
Tynemouth looks beautiful at dusk too and so, before we put away our cameras for the day, we sneaked out with Claire and David for a few shots as it went dark.
It was such a fantastic wedding and we felt honoured to be able to enjoy it as both guests and photographers. After we had given Claire and David their wedding images we were so pleased to hear that not only they, but also both sets of parents, loved the images. We were really touched to receive a thank you card from Claire’s parents in which they wrote “Thank you so much for all of the beautiful photographs that you took at Claire and David’s wedding. You have managed to capture the overwhelming joy of everyone involved as well as the fun and the romance of an amazing day.”
